This was a great surprise. The Giver had been recommended to me many times, but I just picked it up now because the movie is coming out and I'm very glad I did.
You can tell why this book is so important in terms of what we currently see as YA dystopian novels. Lois Lowry does an excellent job with this book and it has obviously inspired almost every new YA author out there.
The one thing I didn't like was the ending because it felt too rushed. I understand that the author wanted to have a somewhat ambiguous ending, and I respect that, but I didn't like how abruptly we passed from "normal life" to the ending scene. I felt it lacked intensity because of that.
Other than that, I really liked the book, I loved Jonas and I loved the Giver. 4,5 stars!
Oh, and for those of you that have read the series, is it true that the rest of the books have different protagonists? Do we not see Jonas again?
